Specifies a description of the item on the journal line.
The program automatically retrieves the description from the Item Card window when the Item No. field is filled in.
If the journal is a recurring journal, then you can choose to let the description be updated automatically every time the journal is posted. You can also choose to enter a fixed text that is used every time the journal is updated. For more information, How to: Fill In Recurring Journals.
To have the program update the description automatically, enter a code that represents the number the program will insert. You can choose from the following codes:

%2 | Current week (for example, 52) |
%3 | Current month number (for example, 1) |
%4 | Current month name (for example, January) |
%5 | Current accounting period name (for example, January). |
You can use the codes as shown in the following example:
If the entry's description will be "Shrinkage + current month number," enter "Shrinkage %3" in the field.

| When the line is posted, the program compares the text in the Description field with the text in the same field on the item card. If the two texts are the same, the text in the journal line is not copied to the posted entry. This prevents the item from being supplied with a name and description that are the same. |
